The uses of 是 … 的
When asking questions and talking about the specifics of a past and completed action, the 是 … 的 structure is needed, with the 是 appearing before the specifics in question. Make sure to include prepositions (在 at, 用 by, 从 from, 跟 with, etc.) in front of the questions words such as 什么 what, 谁 whom, 怎么 how, 什么时候 when, 哪 where) as a unit of the emphasis or question.
Last night at 9 pm dad drove me and my sister to the cinema in mom’s car to see a movie.
