主语 subject＋ 甚至 (even) 连 ＋ 名词 N + 都 + 动词 verb

The stress word “even” (甚至) appears before a noun or pronoun, similar to the patterns used for emphasis such as 一点_(名词, noun)_都__(动词, verb)____ ; or 什么_(名词, noun)__都_(动词, verb)___；

e.g.

  • He didn’t eat anything. 他一点儿东西都没吃。(with stress)
    • 他不吃东西。(without stress)
  • He doesn’t want to do anything. 他什么都不想做。(with stress)
    • 他不想做什么。 (without stress)
  • He didn’t even want to eat food. 他甚至连饭都不想吃。(with stress)
    • 他不想吃饭。 (without stress)

Sometimes the stress is put on the subject (pronoun or special noun):

  • Even teacher does not know that word. 甚至连老师都不认识那个字。

The stress can also be laid without 连, when 甚至 is used simply as an adverb. For example:

  1. 他睡觉甚至不脱裤子。
  2. 暖跟哑巴结婚，甚至不告诉井河。
  3. 她走的时候，甚至不给我她的电话号码。
  4. 跟我男朋友吵架，甚至他父母都说他不对。
  5. 我爸妈甚至没喝过咖啡。
  6. 甚至我弟都会唱那支歌。
  7. 她甚至跟她的狗一起睡觉。
  8. 他甚至忘了昨晚吃了什么。
  9. 为了给我交学费，老爸甚至卖了他的车。

Another way to stress something uses 连 (lián) … + noun + 都 …

  1. 他睡觉连裤子都不脱。
